A favorite of interior designers, chefs, and Food & Wine Magazine, our Ripple Large pasta bowls are inspired by traditional soup plates.

When I first heard about a "soup plate", I had no idea what it was... except for an oxymoron. Early in the history of Haand, someone with expertise told me "every tableware setting needs one", so I set off to design what would become our Ripple Large Pasta Bowl.

You might remember the design story of our Ripple Collection: Movement Frozen in Porcelain. The bowl takes the same inspiration as the plates - capturing the relaxed shape of water moving in a pool, then lifting the edges to form a vessel.

To make our first model, I poured plaster on a table and scuplted it with a spatula while it was still soft and pliable. The shape worked, and has been one of our best sellers ever since. Chefs and food photographers love it because its open face makes it a willing palette to show off a meal.
