From the desk of Mark Warren, Creative Director

When I started working on the Rice Bowl, I was thinking about  traditional Japanese lacquerware...  simple, beautiful, and made to travel.

The goal was for this bowl to stack well, and fit nicely in the hand, while still keeping its contents contained whether you're eating soup on the couch or handing a yogurt bowl to a kid at breakfast.
I turned the first version on a lathe to get circular precision, and shaped it so the curves draw back in at the top and bottom. (Our only other piece that used a lathe for the original model is our Oil Cruet).

I’ve always hoped it would be one of those pieces people reach for without even thinking, so it meant a lot to read Francky Knapp’s piece in Eater, where she wrote that the Rice Bowl:
“just feels like a hug in bowl form.”
There’s something incredibly special about making a small object that quietly becomes part of someone’s daily rhythm.

We’re thinking of expanding the family—there’s a larger and smaller version we’ve been testing in the studio. Should we release them? If the original Rice Bowl has become your go-to, we’d love to hear what you’d do with a full set.
