Haand-Painted: Faces Collection

Filter
I started doing single-line portraits during meetings when I worked temp jobs right out of college, notably at a bathing suit factory in Jacksonville, Florida. I would stare obliquely at people and try to capture their emotions and character by never picking up my ballpoint pen. Years later, I saw some Greek theater masks- Thalia and Melpomene, aka tragedy and comedy. Designed to convey emotion clearly to everyone in a crowded, noisy amphitheater, even the “lessers” on the edges. Each face is a little different, and I love to think of them dancing across the edges of the pieces as they go.
