Red Minoan Octopus on White Plate, Edition of 15
Regular price $125.00Limited Edition of 15, One-of-a-kind, hand-painted pottery
A handpainted octopus on a white Ripple Dinner Plate.
I became fascinated with Minoan art through a roundabout, cringe way- they are often cited as the real-life civilization that Atlantis was based on, and I found them in a pseudo-history book as a tween that claimed they were somewhere between a lost civilization of space travelers and or/ the real, magical, Atlanteans lost forever due to volcanic eruptions and earthquakes. If you ever get a chance, real Minoan art does not actually discourage this- nubile, huge-eyed youths frolic with dolphins, while huge-eyed octopi look on in delight. It’s great. They fill up the space of their pottery and walls with the abundance of sea life around their Mediterranean island. I love painting cephalopods and this is an excuse to indulge that, hopefully in the fun, playful way intended in the originals I am referencing from 3,400 years ago.
As my subject for this series, I chose an Octopus, painted in rich, red clay color. I love the way it fills the space of the pot that it's on, turning it into a cave mouth or tidal pool glanced in the clear water.

Is your dinnerware dishwasher & microwave safe?
Yes, our plates are designed for the rigors of restaurant kitchens and will be safe in your dishwasher & microwave. For cleaning we recommend using detergents that are gentle and environmentally friendly such as Seventh Generation.
How do I clean cutlery marks off the plates?
Is your dinnerware oven safe?
Yes, our plates are also safe in your oven up to 400°F but they are not bakeware or intended for routine use in the oven. Always be careful to prevent subjecting them to thermal shock (going from extreme cold to extreme hot or visa versa). Thermal shock can break or damage porcelain pottery.
Are your products durable?
Our work is used daily in over 175 restaurants around the world. Fast paced restaurants put our plates through rigors that they’ll never experience in your home. You can use our plates just like you’re accustomed to and when taken care of and stored properly, our wares will last a lifetime (or a few!).
How do Haand plates stack?
Our plates are designed to stack in your cupboard. We do not recommend stacking plates more than 12" high.
